Because it ran on …
Because it ran on Channels 5, 9, and 11 which were also seen upstate, South Jersey, and in Pennsylvania. I grew up in the Poconos and saw this all the time. As a child I always wondered why they advertised for “Beautiful Mount Airy Lodge” which was only a few miles away, not realizing it was for people who lived closer to the city.

I lived in Brooklyn …
I lived in Brooklyn and saw this commercial hundreds of times. What I couldnt understand is why they were advertising their hotel in manhattan to brooklynites. Why go through the expense of renting a motel room when Broadway was a short subway ride there? Didnt this commercial air to out of towners in their home states?

video cameras were very expensive and huge and you had to bring/carry the VCR with you too (unless you got the newer models were you can put the VHS tape inside the big camera).

In fact, watching it again, I just noticed that the receptionists are out the street for the big finish. So who’s answering the phones?

As a kid I saw this …
As a kid I saw this commercial about a thousand times. I used to imagine that if you phoned the hotel all you would hear is “…is the Milford Plaza!” and then they’d hang up. Everyone else on the staff seems quite good at their jobs, but those have to be the worst three telephone receptionists I’ve ever seen.

Dennis Miller once …
Dennis Miller once joked on SNL about this place…”Yeah, $59 for a room in Manhattan and you get theater tickets too. What, did I just get hit in the head with a Wrecking Ball?!”
Couldn’t agree with you more, but then again $299 a night today is a steal compared to places like the Waldorf et al.

Yeah, I remember …
I’ll never forget it… (”And in the center of it all, it’s the MILFORD PLAZA!”) Reminds me of NYC in the good days, when I was growing up in BK (our t.v. was still black and white, and we had a ed-up antenna on it! whachu’ young’n’s know about that?! NOT A THING!). And when Channel 9 & 11 was still…GOOD! Before it sold out and went corporate (fucking UPN! Now CW & MyNetwork TV! What the ! It’s HORRIBLE today, man!)
Yeah, I remember this spot!

The commercials are …
The commercials are still worth watching all day. I’ve spent whole days copying old videos to DVD. Nostalgia is so worth wasting time for!
