THERE IS ONLY 14 QUESTIONS. ONLY A COUPLE SENTENCES NEEDED. PLEASE HELP IF YOU COULD

1. Who is the protagonist in the story?

2. Why do you think the author uses references to catholicism so much?

3. Marx’s said, "religion is the opiate of the people". When thinking about the movie, the book and the quote, explain their use of religion

4. The story ends in 1943, with Charles homeless, childless, middle aged, and loveless. Explain all the reasons why you think this happened

5. Many of the characters of the book undergo significant conversions; name at least 2 characters and which conversions they undergo.

6. Mr. Hooper, represents the burgeoning power of the lower class and is a symbol himself of the decay of old civilization. Describe the scene from the book or the movie which illustrates this point.

7. Why does lord Marchmaid return home and why does he leave brideshead to Julia?

8. When Julia is talking to Charles about Rex, she says he is not a complete man. What does she mean?

9. How does Charles college life compare to your school experience? i.e what habits does charles and Sebastian develop that reminds you of college age students today? (personal answers from you are fine)

10. Think about how Sebastians drinking is described and dealt with in the novel. Are the attitudes about drinking different or the same today? Explain

11 How does the Flytes handle sebastians drinking problem?

12. Throughout the novel, Charles questions members of the Flyte family about their beliefs and even makes light of religion. What causes his epiphany?

13. After years of drunkenness and wandering, Sebastian in a sence returns to his religion. Where is he and what is he doing?

Think about the transatlantic cruise Charles and Celia take from NewYork to London. Imagine what it would be like to travel with a group of strangers on a ship that takes days to get to Europe. Write a series of diary entries as if you were Charles and Celia describing the trip and your feelings and experiences. You may want to do some historical research to help you make your entries accurate and detailed.

thankyouuuuuu

I’ll answer the first and then give you a good site from Shmoop.

As the narrator and central character, Charles is definitely our protagonist here. We follow his story through trials of love, family, friendship, and education, and it is his character that we empathize with throughout all of Brideshead Revisited.
