Its caled a water …
Its caled a water hammer effect.
When a large group of water gathers in the steam pipe and then is suddenly coverted into steam in 1 area the pipe will explode.
This was simply a freak and rare accident.
From my knowledge 1 person was kiled.
Btw I love new york.

yeah man,i was there (no joke) i was in times square,which is..what 42 and broadway? well this was on lexington and 41st i think, and i was in virgin records,so mom calls and says there’s all kinds of ppl in the street (she thought somebody famous was in TRL) but,the big TV is right above TRL studio, everybody was watching it..so i asked some guy where that was going on..lol, he pointed to the right and i was like..holy ..so we walked down there and there were ppl everywhere covered in mud..

Methane gas can be dangerous..

Methane gas is built up from fertizlier that gets wet… basicly the gas from that ignites when there is a spark.. even electrical spark..

i was on that street exactly 20 min before that happend i had just left my docs office 25 min before that happend his building is on that that street he called me while i was on metro north going back to yonkers scary if i had spent another 20 min with the doc or been 20 min late i would been in the middle of it
