Some things to …
Some things to consider. Was the bird strike on 1 engine and the other erroneously shut down?
What does the passengers say on both sides?

Not “a” bird… …
Not “a” bird… many. Think about how many flights there are every day, and how many bird strikes, the chances of a double engine failure are slim. Very luck that this was a happy ending!!

Had the winds been …
Had the winds been about 10-15 mph. greater, the chop of the river, would of had a significant impact on this scenario.
Great pilot, optimal weather conditions, slow river traffic , an Air-bus aircraft, newer model, that had a water tight option built in.
Had any of these factors differed, this would of been a typical air crash result.

Strange that the BBC’s NY correspondent doesn’t know that LGA is to the EAST of Manhattan, and not “to the north”. (about 7:– in the video)

20% skill 80% luck. I’m sure the survivors will take it whatever.

I would put it more like 80% skill and 20% luck.

It is always …
It is always difficult to determine the ratio between skill and luck. Einstein used to say that Genius is 10% ispiration & 90% perspiration, however I think there is no success without luck, or skill & no Genius without inspiration, or perspiration. Thank-you both for commenting.
