Aftermarket Car GPS Navigation System
March 18th, 2010 | by admin |Several manufacturers make aftermarket Car GPS navigation systems that can be permanently installed in a car. They are sometimes installed in the slot for the radio / CD system. Sometimes, however, the dashboard has to be breached to accommodate an aftermarket car GPS navigation system.
The advantages of having an aftermarket system installed include a more secure installation than a portable device, and usually a lower cost compared to an original factory car GPS navigation system. The map formats used in the various aftermarket systems are usually proprietary. As of now, there’s no industry standard for GPS maps. Map data vendors create base maps in a standard format called GDF, but each electronics manufacturer turns it into its own proprietary format.
